Good news for kidney sufferers. Apart from providing safe drinking water to the victims who have been struggling with kidney diseases for decades, the AP government has set up a 200-bed super specialty kidney hospital and research center at Palasa in Srikakulam district. Dr. YSR Kidney Research Hospital is ready to be inaugurated by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Uddanam of Srikakulam district has become a carafe address for kidney sufferers. This is not all the turmoil that the kidney problem has been causing for four decades. It has been engulfing this area like water under a carpet for years. More than 21 percent of the population here is suffering from kidney disease, so one can understand how serious the situation is. It is estimated that 15 thousand people have already died. 112 villages in the district are suffering from kidney disease. Currently, in the super specialty hospital that CM Jagan is opening, apart from providing all types of treatment related to kidney diseases, the government has provided the most advanced equipment to enable research to be done to find the causes of the disease. In 2019, the state government entered into an MoU with the Indian Council of Medical Research, George Institute for Global Health, Technology Education and Research Institutes for the construction of this hospital and research on kidney diseases.
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy saw the hardships of Uddanam victims very closely during his padayatra before coming to power. They were shocked to see the suffering of the people of Uddana, who could not get proper medical treatment, could not travel to far places for treatment, and did not have enough financial resources. As soon as he came to power, he promised to work towards a permanent solution to the problems of kidney patients. On September 6, 2019, CM Jagan laid the foundation stone for the Super Specialty Hospital and Research Center at Uddanam, less than three months after assuming power as promised. However, the construction work was slightly delayed due to the corona crisis for two consecutive years, but the state government started the work in full on February 18, 2020 and completed the construction within two years. Dr. YSR Kidney Research Hospital has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.85 crores, spread over an area of about 3.8 acres, on four floors, with a capacity of 200 beds. It has 98 general beds, 102 ICU beds, pay rooms.
