National Sports Awards: The National Sports Awards ceremony began today at 11:00 AM at the President’s Draupadi Murmu Bhavan. Dronacharya awards were conferred for the first time. The President felicitated the sportspersons who performed brilliantly in 2023 with various awards. The country’s star badminton duo Satwik Sairaj and Chirag Shetty received the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. At the same time, 26 players, including Mohammed Shami, have received the Arjuna Award.
Shami shone with the most wickets in the World Cup.
Among the Arjun Award winners is 33-year-old fast bowler Mohammad Shami, who performed brilliantly in the ODI World Cup. India became the runner-up after losing to Australia in the final. Despite not playing the first four matches of the tournament, Shami became the top wicket taker of the tournament with 24 wickets.

Golf coach Jaskeerat Singh Grewal, Bhaskaran E (Kabaddi, Coach) and Jayant Kumar Pusilal (Table Tennis, Coach) were given Life Time Award.

Ganesh Prabhakaran (Mallakhamb), Mahaveer Saini (Para Athletics), Lalit Kumar (Wrestling), RB Ramesh (Chess) and Shivendra Singh (Hockey) have been conferred with the highest coaching honor Dronacharya Award.
This year will be memorable for Satwik Chirag..
2023 will be memorable for Chirag and Satwik who have won 3 BWF titles. They won the Asian Games gold (India’s first gold in a badminton event at the Asian Games) and the Asian Championship title. The pair also won the Indonesian Super 1000, Korea Super 500 and Swiss Super 300 titles.
Satwik-Chirag, a bronze medalist at the World Championships, returned after winning gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Both will receive the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, India’s highest sports award.
