The political battle in Eluru Constituency will always be between the ruling opposition and you or me. But there is a campaign that the current MLA Alla Nani will be replaced and a new candidate will be fielded this time. Alla Nani is a hero loyal to CM Jaganmohan Reddy regardless of the campaign. Locals believe that giving a ticket to someone other than him is like a miracle. There are more than two and a half lakh voters in Elur. In particular, more than 60,000 Kapu and Eastern Kapu social groups have votes in it. Except for one or two times in the past, people from the Kapu community have always won as MLAs.
In the last election, many people were hoping for the Eluru ticket, but CM Jagan gave the ticket to Alla Nani, who was an MLC. But recently YCP has prepared the ground for change of candidates in many places. In this order, changes have already been made to the candidates of many constituencies and it has created a sensation across the state. But doubts are also being expressed whether there are candidates of such a level to face the opposition. In this sequence, the name of ex-Red Cross Society president and prominent industrialist Mamillapalli Jayaprakash alias JP is prominently heard. But it is special that JP is also my follower.
Since then, many feel that the close relationship with Nani has been damaged. Another leader is former AMC chairman of Elur Kachan Mai Babu. He is also loyal to me. But this time, if the YCP leadership is thinking of changing him, there will be a campaign saying that Nani is asking me to give the ticket to My Babu. After YCP came to power, there was a campaign that JP wanted the post of mayor for his wife. As that was not possible, there were differences between JJP and Nani. Once or twice in the past, JP Aligi was away from me. In this background, this time the gap between them has increased. JP is using all his influence near the headship. It is heard that by now, steps have been taken so that 6 to 7 corporators can come out with him. JP openly hopes that the party will give him the ticket in view of his family history and his experience in politics from the Congress.
However, Alla Nani did not give any clarity on whether he will be in the competition or not and remained silent. But it is natural for him not to say what is on his mind. Even with the closest people, Nani would talk a word or two and settle the matter. Nani, who started his political career as a youth congress leader, contested as an independent. Later in 2004, under the leadership of YS Rajasekhar Reddy, Nani entered the legislative assembly for the first time. He also won in 2009 and finally joined YCP under Jagan’s leadership after the death of YS. Although he got the ticket in 2014, he lost to Telugu Desam Party candidate Badeti Bujji.
Alla Nani, who was elected as MLC in 2017, contested for the Assembly again in 2019 and won against Bujji. CM Jagan served as Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister in the first cabinet. His close friends say that Nani was deeply distraught when he had to give up his ministerial post for rotation. Not coming out for a long time, being limited to just reviews, meanwhile the rest of the leaders were successful in conveying local matters to the leadership, which became a minus for me. It has reached the level where even those who are loyal to him expect a ticket. But Nani is clearly telling his insiders that he will be in the ring in 2024 elections as well. If he stands up, some will back down. But if there is someone other than him, there will be a campaign that Elur politics will change to such an extent that the names of the leaders and candidates in the contest will change.
On the other hand, various doubts are expressed in the party ranks. Elections are not about one candidate but their financial strength is also taken into account. In this process, as JP is a financially strong person, there is a campaign that he will also get the ticket. But if YCP is ready to give ticket to JP and not Nani, Nani will definitely not show his politics. It is claimed that he will arrange for one of his followers to get a ticket. Among such people, Manchem Mai Babu’s name is popular. In the past Maibabu was active in Praja Rajyam. After the death of YS, along with Nani joined the party in Vidi YCC. The then Congress leaders also tried to bring down Maibabu in the ring. With his strength and political experience, Mai Babu is also hoping for a ticket, but if it is in Nani’s eyes, there will be an opportunity. On the other hand, in 2019, it was thought that the YCP ticket would go to the Balaram family. But with Nani contesting, Sridhar, the son of his political mentor Kotagiri Vidyadhara Rao, remained Balaram’s chief follower. Later, Balaram was very unhappy as he got the post of chairman of Eluru Development Authority, but now the responsibility has been handed over to someone else. The situation where he is doing politics away from me is seen in Elur.
The main opposition Telugu Desam Party is also strong in Eluru. This time the alliance with Jana Sena is a good thing for them. In the last election, MLA Alla Nani won against TDP candidate Badeti Bujji with a majority of just 4 thousand votes. After the 2019 election, Badeti Bujji passed away due to a heart attack and his brother Badeti Chanti took charge as Eluru TDP in-charge. Chanti was successful in taking the party’s programs to the masses. But this time TDP got a new problem here. As part of the TDP-Jana Sena campaign, it is being advertised that the Jan Sena is seeking the Eluru ticket. Also, many are of the opinion that the Janasena was the main reason for the TDP’s defeat in Eluru in the last election as well. In the 2019 election, Jana Sena candidate Reddy Appalanaidu was in the contest and got more than 16 thousand votes. There is a talk that TDP’s votes fell heavily to Janasena and that is why the candidate of that party was defeated here.
But as the influence of the Kapu social class is high here, the main parties are leaning towards the Kapu social leaders as the first priority. Because MLA Alla Nani, Jayaprakash, Mai Babu, Balaram from YCP and also TDP in-charge Chanti Kapu are leaders from the community. Janasena in-charge Reddy Appalanaidu is a leader of East Kapu community. Moreover, being a labor leader is a plus for him. Politics here has become juicy. The current situation between TDP Janasena has turned into Kapu vs Eastern Kapu. Jana Sena also expects Eluru ticket. Janasena leaders believe that if Eluru ticket is given to Janasena as part of the alliance, they will definitely win. But there is a talk that TDP is also not ready to give up the ticket. The party leaders are confident that if the ticket is given to TDP with the support of Janasena, it will win with a huge majority. Although not openly, there is an internal ticket war going on here between TDP and Jana Sena. In whose endeavors they are moving vigorously. In any case, many leaders feel that the final decision of the leadership is likely to be the main one.
But elections are going to be held in Eluru. As the majority of votes belong to that social group, programs are organized to attract them towards their parties. But in the context of the internal factional fight in YCP, if I am given a ticket, will the dissident leaders fully cooperate? Or what will be the situation if ticket is allotted to my follower Mai Babu..? Many aspirants of YCP are already in touch with other party leaders, it is not clear how far the chances of YCP winning are in the background of the campaign. And if YCP ticket is allotted to JP, it will be publicized that there is no possibility of Nani’s faction to fully cooperate with him. And when it comes to TDP Janasena..whoever is trying to get a ticket..on the other hand, if the ticket is given to TDP in alliance with Shirodhari Mantu, will Janasena provide full cooperation..? Or if the ticket is allotted to the Jana Sena, how far the TDP leaders will cooperate with the Jana Sena for their victory has become a hot topic of discussion in the constituency. At present, however, it is clear that a chaotic situation has arisen in the ruling opposition parties in Elur.
