This is what is meant by stealing nothing. For some time now, pepper thieves have been on the rise. The hard-earned crops of Arugalam are being destroyed night by night and the farmers are suffering. The dry crop is being looted after midnight.. Half of the crop is destroyed by pests.. The remaining half is being stolen in this way, the pepper farmers are lamenting with tears in their eyes. The farmer, who was guarding the crop, couldn’t stand the cold and covered himself with a blanket and got up.
The dry chillies that the farmers have worked hard to harvest for six years fall under the hands of crop thieves. An incident where unidentified persons stole the dried chillies to sell the crop in the middle of the night took place in Emmiganoor of Kurnool district. Srinu, a farmer from Kalugatla village, took a three acre farm on lease and invested four lakh rupees in it and cultivated the chilli crop. He cut and dried the crop to sell. He dried in the sun at the Grand Mahal on Kurnool Road for two days. However, at present the market is offering a good rate for the sale of chillies, so the thieves have turned their attention to the chillies. The eyes of some thieves fell on the dried chillies of Rythu Sri.
He approached the police because he was worried that the robbers, who were determined to rob in the middle of the night, would not take about five quintals of pepper. He said that the value of the stolen chili is about one lakh and thirty thousand rupees. When Rythu Sheenu complained about this incident at the local rural police station, the police reached the spot and examined the CCTV footages of the nearby CCTV camera.
Farmers are lamenting that the crops have been harvested due to lack of proper rains or only partial harvests, and thieves have stolen the harvested crops during such a drought. Farmer Sheen is begging for the help of donors to support them.
