The Telangana Electricity Department has decided that the beneficiaries of Griha Jyoti must undergo Aadhaar verification. A gazette notification has been issued to this effect. It said that the names will be registered in the free current scheme only after this validation is completed in the biometric system. In its announcement, the power department has directed the discoms to undertake the Aadhaar verification process. Beneficiaries should inform the staff of the person in whose name the household current connection is registered so that they can register their names. Anyone who does not have Aadhaar should take it immediately.. Apply immediately and show the proof. However, till Aadhaar is issued, other identity cards can be used. Bank, post office passbook with customer’s photo xerox, pancard, voter identity card, employment guarantee scheme identity card, kisan passbook, driving license, ration card, certificate issued by any gazetted officer, MMARO should be shown to the electrical staff and register the names.
In its directives, the power department has said that as part of biometric validation, the eyelids should be scanned if there is no fingerprint. Discomle suggested to make arrangements for this. If the devices do not work, it said that after entering the Aadhaar number, it should be verified through the OTP sent to the owner’s cellphone. If not, it has issued guidelines to scan the QR code on the Aadhaar card to get the details. The power department has directed the discoms to select the beneficiaries as per the provisions of the order issued from time to time for the implementation of this scheme.
