The three-match T20 series between India and Afghanistan will begin from January 11. Afghanistan team reached India for this series. Meanwhile, the big news has come out that three star players from Team India have been dropped from this series. It is reported that opener Ruthuraj Gaikwad is not available for the upcoming T20 series against Afghanistan. According to an ESPNcricinfo report, Rutheraj Gaikwad is currently suffering from a finger injury. It is reported that he has been removed from the team. In fact, Gaikwad injured his finger in the second ODI against South Africa in Port Elizabeth on 19 December. Due to this injury, Ruthuraj also missed the Test series. Along with him, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya will also miss the Indian team for the three-match T20 series against Afghanistan due to injuries and other issues. According to an ESPNcricinfo report, both Suryakumar and Hardik are likely to be fit by the time of IPL. While Suryakumar Yadav was injured during the South Africa tour, Hardik Pandya was injured during the 2023 World Cup.
With the unavailability of these three, the doors of fortune for Team India will open for the young players in the team. It seems that more young players will be selected for this series. Apart from this, it seems that two seniors Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will also play the T20 series against Afghanistan. Looking at the schedule of the series, the first match of the T20 series between India and Afghanistan will be played on Thursday (January 11) at the Punjab Cricket Association’s IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The second T20 match (January 14) will be played at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. On the other hand, both the teams will meet in the last match of the series (January 17) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
