Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary: Rajahmundry Rural Constituency is known as the stronghold of TDP in the united East Godavari district. After 2008, the Telugu Desam Party has been winning consecutively in the Rajahmundry Rural Constituency which was formed after the re-distribution of Assembly constituencies. Currently, this constituency is called as Adda by TDP senior leader and senior MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chaudhary. After the formation of this constituency, the people of this place crowned TDP.
In the 2009 assembly elections, despite the influence of YS Rajasekhar Reddy, the Telugu Desam Party’s flag was waved here. Chandana Ramesh won as MLA on behalf of TDP. After that Gorantla Butchaiah Choudhary won from TDP in 2014 elections. In 2019, the YCP swept the entire state, but the TDP won in Ramandri Rural Constituency. Gorantla Butchaiah Chaudhary, who has been in the party since the inception of TDP, has made Rajahmundry Rural a stronghold of TDP with his experience as a leader who has won MLA six times.
Will TDP win this time too?
With successive victories in the Rajahmundry Rural Constituency formed in 2009, TDP’s stronghold in the Rajahmundry Rural 2024 elections also seems to be certain. In this constituency, which has more than 2.70 lakh voters, there is a discussion that the YCP has made alternative arrangements without a leader to fight the Gorants. In the recently announced list of constituency in-charges announced by YCP, it seems that behind the appointment of Venugopalakrishna, the Minister of Rajahmundry Rural Constituency, who has passed away, it seems that he has been appointed with the target of breaking TDP’s stronghold through social mobilization.
It seems that YCP can reach the target by appointing minister Venugopalakrishna from Shettibalija community in Rajahmundry Constituency, BC Shettibalija voters are the key. However, TDP is inclined to field Gorantla Butchaiah Chaudhary this time as well. Or it seems that there are possibilities of bringing his son into the field. TDP, which has already won three times and won a hat-trick, is trying to win the fourth time as well.
Three times unilateral verdict…
The voters here gave an absolute majority to the TDP, which won three times and won a hat-trick, except in 2009. In 2009, TDP, Congress and Praja Rajyam faced each other in a three-cornered contest. Chandana Ramesh, a textile merchant, on behalf of TDP, Jakkampudi Vijayalakshmi on behalf of Congress and Ravanam Swaminayudu on behalf of PRP faced each other. Chandana Ramesh won with a majority of 1,547 votes over the TDP PRP candidate who got 32.39 percent votes.
In 2014, Gorantla Butchaiah Chaudhary contested from TDP and Akula Veerrajulu from YCP. The TDP secured 52.22 percent of the votes and won with a majority of 18,058 votes over the YCP candidate. In 2019, Gorantla Butchaiah Chaudhary from TDP, Akula Veeraju from YCP and Kandula Durgesh from Janasena stood in the ring. Gorantla Butchaiah Choudhary, who secured 74,166 votes, won by securing a majority of 10,404 votes over YCP candidate Akula Veeraju.
