ICC World Test Championship: Team India was fined due to slow over rate in the first Test against South Africa at the Centurion venue. Rohit Sharma’s side lost two ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points for bowling two overs short in the opening Test against South Africa. Also, the Indian team was fined 10% of the match fee.
Chris Broad, a member of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, handed down the penalty as India fell two overs short of the target.

Team India was fined under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct. It is related to minimum over rate. In this, players are fined 5% of their match fee for every over they fail to bowl within the stipulated time.
Team India has fallen to the sixth position in the points table.

Team India’s position in the WTC points table has become weak due to the deduction of points for slow over rate. After the defeat against South Africa, Team India finished at the 5th position with 16 points. However, the team fell to the sixth position with 14 points as the points dropped.
In the first test, South Africa’s innings won by 32 runs.
India lost the Centurion Test by 32 runs on the third day of the innings. In the second innings, the South African team was bowled out for 131 runs. While Virat Kohli scored a half-century, the rest of the batsmen could not do anything special. Among the South African bowlers, Andre Berger took 4 wickets.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl at SuperSport Park on Tuesday. India scored 245 runs in the first innings with KL Rahul’s century. South Africa scored 408 runs in the first innings while Dean Elgar scored 185 runs. Although India trailed by 163 runs, the team managed to score only 131 runs.
Dean Elgar, who scored 185 runs in the first innings for South Africa, became the player of the match. He is playing the last series of his career.
South Africa took a 1-0 lead in the series after winning the first Test. The second and final Test will be held in Cape Town from January 3, 2024.
