After the two-match Test series against South Africa, the Indian cricket team will face Afghanistan. He will play a total of three T20 matches with that team. This will be the last T20 series for India before the prestigious ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Meanwhile, the BCCI selection committee was in a dilemma as Indian T20 captains Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Ruthuraj Gaikwad were injured. With this, the BCCI selection committee is struggling over who should be selected as the captain. But according to the current information, Rohit Sharma will be selected for the T20 series with Afghanistan. Rohit Sharma has not played a single T20 match after the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, the selectors as well as the BCCI want Rohit to lead India in the 2024 T20 World Cup. So there is a chance for Rohit to take over the T20 captaincy again.
“The selectors will decide who will lead the team. We had a long discussion with Rohit. He is all set to lead the T20 World Cup. But in addition to this, the England Test series has a lot of importance. Ajit (Agarkar) will talk to Rohit about this,” said a senior BCCI official. Hardik Pandya captained the T20 team in Rohit Sharma’s absence. However, Pandya missed the India-Bangladesh World Cup match in October due to an ankle injury. He has not yet recovered from his injury. IPL is likely to return by 2024. Suryakumar Yadav, who led India in the T20 series against Australia and South Africa, was also ruled out with an ankle injury. Another captain, Ruthuraj Gaikwad, who led India in the Asian Games, was also injured. So, now the captaincy will be handed over to Rohit Sharma. Ahead of the India-Africa Test series, Rohit Sharma hinted at his return to T20s.
