2024 Medaram Mahajatara is still two months away. The dates of Mahajatara have been finalized from February 21 to 24. But devotees are already flocking to Medaram in lakhs. Lakhs of devotees queued up at Medaram for three consecutive days of holidays. They visited Sammakka-Sarakka deities and paid their prayers. Last Sunday alone, about two lakh devotees visited Medaram Sammakka Sarakka deities. Devotees from AP, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra also come to visit Sammakka-Sarakka deities. Delightful upright jaggery flowers are offered to Sammakka-Sarakka deities.
It has become a matter of discussion that more than one lakh devotees visit Sammakka Sarakka deities every day. There is a debate as to why devotees are flocking in such large numbers even though the fair is still two months away. But some locals say that it will be difficult to come if the corona cases increase again until the time of the fair, so they are coming early and paying their respects to the Sammakka Sarakka deities.
Some locals are crowded with lakhs of devotees during the fair. During the fair there is a lot of bullfights. So it is said that it is difficult to have darshan at that time as a family and that is why we come earlier and pay prayers as a family. Offerings of sweet jaggery to the Sammakka Sarakka deities along with chickens and goats are offered as offerings.
However, due to the huge rush of devotees before the fair, the authorities also made special arrangements. Special parking has also been arranged on the four main roads leading to the fair. Local Minister Sitakka also visited Medaram today. Supervised the development works of the fair. As the entire road from Narlapur was damaged, the officials were directed to repair it immediately. From there, Sitakka went straight towards Chilakalagutta and issued instructions to take appropriate measures to avoid any trouble to the devotees on that route. He suggested that all the departments should coordinate and make the fair organized by the state government very prestigious, that there will be no tolerance for any negligence in the works.
