The Congress government in Telangana started a free bus scheme for women after coming to power. The provision was earlier extended to all women. A few days later orders were issued to give zero ticket only to those who have local identity card. Due to this some have lost their travel eligibility. This controlled the traffic to some extent. Now a similar proposal has been brought in Balconda. They asked the local MMARO to provide free travel in RTC buses to women with ration cards.
Leaders of Dharma Samaj Party have submitted a petition to strictly implement this rule. This is expected to reduce the number of women traveling in RTC buses. He also said that the auto drivers have lost their livelihood due to the free RTC bus travel brought by the Telangana government. Each auto driver received Rs. 3000 and demanded to support their families. It was explained to MMARO that this matter should be brought to the attention of the higher officials and the government. Leaders Atma Gaurav, Kranti Kiran, Nitish, Tarun and Karthik participated in this program along with Samaj Party mandal convener Nishant Maharaj.
Meanwhile, women across the state protested for free travel for women. They traveled to their relative’s house, shopping and shrines. As a result, any bus looks full of crowded people. Buses are not available for the needy. That is why TSRTC has also issued a press release asking anyone interested in driving rental buses to apply.
