Dharna Chowk at Indira Park has a long history. Such Dharna Chowk was lifted by BRS Govt. She decided that no dharna could be done there. At that time, the opposition had planned a large-scale agitation for the pepper farmers. In response to this, the government has taken every step. Police were heavily deployed. Locals also decided that there should be no sit-ins there. They also tried to protest as a competition.
Police on one side, opposition parties, farmers on the other side, and local people on the other side, all three have taken up competitive actions. With this, the then KCR government took a key decision. She decided that no further agitations can be held at Dharna Chowk in Indira Park.
This led to a situation where the opposition had to hold sit-ins for Dharna Chowk. Courts were approached. He blamed the lifting of the Dharna Chowk in Telangana saying that there is Jantar Mantar for the agitations in the national capital Delhi. As the government did not give permission to hold any kind of protest at Dharna Chowk, the opposition parties have been holding dharnas following orders from the courts. Now the Congress government has given permission to protest in Dharna Chowk. But the police say that as long as there is no trouble to the people, it is okay, but if they cause trouble to the people, they will intervene.
