A long awaited dream is about to come true. The Andhra Pradesh State Cabinet recently approved the DPR for the light metro rail project in Visakhapatnam. Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved the construction of metro in four corridors in Visakhapatnam. The government, which has been saying that it is going to make it the administrative capital of the state, is focusing on the development of Visakhapatnam. In view of the growing population and increasing needs, the public transport system is moving forward to strengthen it. There are many interesting aspects in the recently approved DPR.
According to the DPR, the government has ambitiously taken up the construction of the metro rail project in Visakhapatnam and has incorporated the direction of construction of metro pillars to reflect the history, culture and tradition of the state. According to this, in the first phase, arrangements will be started to lay the foundation stone for the construction of 76.90 km light metro. It is noteworthy that the Cabinet has also directed the Metro management to speed up fund raising. According to the latest estimates, the population of Visakhapatnam is likely to be more than 27 lakhs. The total population, including the suburbs where the metro is proposed, is 41 lakhs. The state government is moving ahead with the hope that there will be no problem with viability here.
Foundation stone laid on 15th January
There is information that the state government is thinking of not only approving the DPR but also laying the foundation stone for the metro rail works on January 15 next year. At the same time, there was a discussion in the cabinet to take necessary steps to collect funds before laying the foundation stone. The Cabinet not only directed AP Metro Rail Corporation MD UJM Rao to explore the available ways but also made several suggestions.
Four corridors, 54 stations
- Three corridors with a total of 42 metro stations are expected to be constructed in the first phase.
- 34.40 KM from Steel Plant Gate to Kommadi Junction in Corridor-1
- Corridor-2: 5.07 km from Gurdwara to Old Post Office
- As a part of Corridor-3, it has been mentioned in the DPR that this light metro corridor should be completed for 6.75 kilometers from Tatichetlapalem to Chinwaltheru. After that, 30.67 km from Kommadi to Bhogapuram Airport in Corridor-4.
- In total, the officials mentioned in DPR are going to focus on raising funds to set up 54 stations and two depots in these four corridors.
