Assembly meetings have started once again in Telangana. Assembly meetings were held for the second time after the formation of the Congress government. Earlier, the rest of the ministers including Revanth Reddy took oath. But today, in the wake of unanimously electing the Speaker of the Legislature, the assembly meetings were held once again. First, Protem Speaker Akbaruddin Owaisi officially announced Gaddam Prasad as the Speaker of the Assembly. After that Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka congratulated Gaddam Prasad who was elected as Speaker.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that all the parties cooperated in selecting Gaddam Prasad as Speaker. He said that he is very happy to select a Dalit leader as the Speaker of the Assembly for the first time. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy took the Speaker to the podium and made him sit in the speaker’s chair and gave him a bouquet. After that the Cabinet Ministers went to the podium one by one and congratulated the Speaker. BRS MLAs KTR, Danam Nagender, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy and others shook hands and congratulated.
Gaddam Prasad took the first step as an MPTC and was elected as the Speaker of the Legislature today. He entered politics at the age of 21. He was born in 1964 in Marpally. He completed his intermediate in 1984 and stood as a Congress candidate in the 2008 by-elections. They achieved overwhelming success in Vikarabad. In 2009, he once again became an MLA, and in 2012, he served as a minister in the then joint Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy’s cabinet. He had to suffer consecutive defeats in 2014 and 2018 elections. Gaddam Prasad was appointed as a member of the TPCC Executive Committee in 2022. In the assembly elections held in 2023, he contested from Vikarabad and won once again.
Gaddam Prasadkumar’s candidature as Speaker received support from all parties except BJP. He seems to have got the support of 63 Congress members, 39 BRS members, seven MIM and one MLA from CPI. With this, Gaddam Prasad was elected unanimously and sat in the chair.
