AP Telangana News: The issue of electricity dues to be paid by the Telangana government to AP came up for discussion in the Rajya Sabha. YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy raised this issue. Union Power Minister RK Singh replied to this. It was revealed that the issue of electricity dues to be paid by the Telangana government to Andhra is currently in the Supreme Court. Union Minister RK Singh said that after the court verdict, action will be taken accordingly. Union Minister RK Singh reminded that the AP government had gone to the Supreme Court and filed a special leave petition challenging the Telangana High Court’s ruling in favor of the payment of electricity dues.
From June 2, 2014 to June 10, 2017, after the separation of the two states from AP, Andhra Pradesh supplied electricity to Telangana power distribution companies (discoms) through Genco. To that extent, Telangana owes Rs.6756.92 crore rupees. Union Minister RK Singh reminded that Union Minister RK Singh has issued orders on August 29, 2022 under Section 92 of the Andhra Pradesh State Redistricting Act 2014 stating that the dues should be paid within a month. The Union Minister said that the Central Power Department has ordered to pay Rs.3441.78 crores of Rs.3441.78 crores in the form of late payment surcharges and Rs.3315.14 crores as late payment surcharges.
The Telangana government filed a writ petition in the Telangana High Court challenging the directives of the Union Ministry of Power. With this, the Telangana High Court on October 19, 2023 dismissed the orders issued by the Central Power Department on August 29, 2022 regarding the electricity dues to be paid by Telangana to AP. Union Minister RK Singh also mentioned this judgment in Rajya Sabha. He explained that the matter is pending as the AP government went to the Supreme Court challenging the Telangana High Court verdict.
