NTR District News: When the Mylavaram Assembly Constituency in NTR district was established in 1955, the Communists first influenced it. After that, Congress became a stronghold. After the emergence of Telugu Desam (Telugu Desam), the candidates of that party stepped down…. Currently YCP MLA Vasanthakrishna Prasad is continuing as MLA. He joined the Telugu Desam Party and came out from that party.
Communist stronghold
After the formation of Andhra State, a new constituency was formed in 1955 with Mylavaram as the centre. In those days, as the influence of left parties was high throughout Krishna District… Here too, CPI party candidate Vellanki Visveswara Rao won against Congress candidate Pederla Venkatasubbaiah by a margin of only 84 votes. The same candidates contested in the subsequent elections of 1962. CPI retained this seat. Then Visveswara Rao won with 514 votes. For the first time in 1967, Chanumolu Venkatarao raised the victory on behalf of the Congress. He got a majority of nearly 20 thousand votes….he won in 1972 and 78 and scored a hat trick.
With the emergence of Telugu Desam (Telugu Desam), NTR (NTR) made an impact across the state…. Nimmagadda Satyanarayana won on behalf of that party. Chanumolu won over Venkatarao with a majority of 4,200 votes. Then again in 1985 elections, Chanumolu Venkatarao defeated Nimmagadda Satyanarayana.. In 1989, Komati Bhaskar Rao stood for Congress…Jeshtha Ramesh Babu contested from Telugu Desam…Congress won. In 1994, as Telugu Desam swept across the state, Jeshtha Ramesh, the party’s candidate, won with a majority of over 7,000 votes in Mylavaram as well.
In 1999 Vijayawada sitting MP Vadde Sobhanadhriswara Rao was allotted a Telugu Desam ticket…he won against Komati Subbarao from Congress. In 2004, with Rajasekhar Reddy’s padayatra, the Congress won the state… Chanumolu Venkatarao from the party’s senior Congress won for the fifth time. Devineni Umamaheswara Rao contested from Telugu Desam in 2009 and won against Congress candidate Sandeep. Devineni Uma had to come from Mylavaram as Nandigama SC was reserved.
Devineni, who won for the second consecutive term in 2014 after the division of the state, worked as a minister in Chandrababu’s government. While Devineni Uma contested from Mylavaram for the third time…Vasantha Krishna Prasad entered the field as a YCP candidate in the last election and won. In subsequent developments, Vasantha Krishna Prasad left YCP (YCP) and joined Telugu Desam Party…currently Mylavaram ticket has been allotted to her. Saranala Tirupati Rao Yadav (Tirupati Yadav) entered the ring on behalf of YCP. It has to be seen to what extent Tirupati Rao Yadav can push the financially strong candidate Vasantha.
