Medaram Sammakka Sarakka Jatara 2024: Medaram: World’s largest tribal festival Medaram Jatara (Medaram Jatara 2024) was organized grandly. Sammakka Sarakka fair was held from February 21 to 24 in Medaram of Tadwai mandal of Mulugu district. But the adivasi fair is stinking around Medaram. More than one crore devotees flocked to the four-day Jatara to visit Sammakka Sarakka Jatara and offer prayers. The garbage left behind by the devotees creates a stench and stench in the Medaram. Flies, worms and insects are spreading. On the one hand, there is bad smell. On the other hand, due to the influence of flies, it seems that the Medaram cannot stay in the surrounding areas.
Troubles for locals due to uncleanliness and stench
For four days, the forest area of Medaram was thrilled with the excitement of the devotees. But after the end of the fair, the people around Medaram not only suffer from bad smell, but also get burdened with diseases. About one crore and 50 lakh devotees flocked to the fair which was held from 21st to 24th of this month in Medaram village of Mulugu district and visited the goddess Laina Sammakka Saralamma. As they all went, the peaceful forest area was littered with garbage, plastic, chicken and goat waste and excrement. Locals are expressing their grief that food waste plastic chickens and goats left by devotees can be seen for kilometers around Medaram Medaram. This not only gives off bad smell but flies and mosquitoes are roaming around. The people of Medaram and Oortam Reddy Gudem areas are worried that there is a possibility of getting sick due to this.
To avoid lack of sanitation during the fair, the officials have taken up the sanitation work 20 days before the fair. 5 thousand sanitation workers including 4 thousand sanitation workers and 1 thousand temporary toilet cleaners performed duties in the fair till the end of the fair. However, garbage, waste of chickens and goats accumulated in the fair. It is said that even though the sanitation workers perform their duty in two shifts from 6 am to 8 pm, the garbage remains the same and the situation is worse since the end of the fair four days ago. The term of duty of sanitation workers will end on 29th of this month. Sanitation workers say that there is a strong stench in the fair and they do not know when the garbage disposal will start.
Resident of Medaram Raj Kumar said that the people of Medaram, Reddygudem, Oorattam and Kannepally villages are temporarily vacating their villages due to the waste left in the fair and many people are suffering from diseases. District Panchayat Raj Officer Venkaiah said that 75 percent of the sanitation work has been completed and it will return to normal in a day or two. Officials say that the entire Madara has been cleaned and the weather is almost normal.
