Revanth Reddy orders New Sand Policy: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has decided to prepare a new policy for the sale of sand in the state. It has been suggested to the officials that the new policy should be formulated in accordance with the needs of the people along with providing revenue to the government. He said that the policies followed by AP, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and other states should be studied. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy held a review meeting with officials of the Department of Mines and Mineral Resources at the Secretariat on Thursday.
The chief minister said that the sand policy in force in the state has become a scourge of corruption. The CM alerted the officials that irregularities are happening at all levels. The Chief Minister warned that the sand quarrying and illegal transportation of sand, which is going on in violation of the rules, should be stopped immediately. A deadline has been set for officials at all levels to change their practices within 48 hours.
After two days, the officials were ordered to deploy the vigilance and ACB departments. The CM warned that inspections should be carried out immediately in all districts and that no one responsible should be left behind. Based on the data recorded at the toll gates on all the routes, the officials have been directed to take out the entire amount of illegal sand lorries. He said that all the existing sand reaches and dumps should be inspected, if there are mistakes, fines are not enough, strict measures should be taken beyond that.
The CM expressed his anger on the answer given by the officials that there are CCTV cameras all over the Sand Reach. On March 1 last year, when he went on a pilgrimage to Jammikunta in Karimnagar district, he recalled the occasion when he went to Tanugula Sand Quarry in Maneru River and said that there were no CCTV cameras there.
The Chief Minister said that on the 3rd of this month, surprise inspections were conducted on the Nizamabad and Warangal routes with the transport department. If 83 sand lorries were checked, 22 lorries were found to be unauthorized. He said that four or five lorries were found transporting sand with the same permit and the same number. According to this calculation, 25 percent of the sand is being moved illegally, the CM said.
The CM said that there is a need to stop the irregularities taking place at the center of TSMDC and thoroughly cleanse the mines and underground resources department. Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Tummala Nageswara Rao, Government Chief Secretary Shantikumari, Mines and Geology Principal Secretary Mahesh Dutt Ekka, Mining Department Director Sushil Kumar along with officials participated in this meeting.
