There is no animal greater than the dog in faith. Many pet dogs are treated like members of their family. They develop a connection with them. Any harm to them will make them flinch. Even those dumb creatures have the same love and faith towards their master. They even sacrifice their lives for their master. After the death of a domesticated dog, an animal lover performed funeral rites and rituals in the traditional way and showed the mamkara on it.
Bhusani Mallareddy and Iswaramma from Nayanagar in Kodada town of Suryapet district have no children. The lack of children left the couple mentally depressed. So they got a dog fifteen years ago and named it Sweety. The dog was raised like a small child. That dog also became a member of their family. Birthday celebrations were held for that dog every year among relatives and friends.
The couple could not cope with the death of the dog they had raised as a family member for 15 years. The last rites of the dog were performed in the same way as humans do when they die. The dog was placed in front of the house and garlanded. A band mela was organized and the couple took it in a vehicle to their agricultural farm in the suburbs of Kodada and buried it scientifically. Locals and relatives were called and small and big rituals were also performed for the dog. Mallareddy and Eswaramma couple say that the dog they brought up as a family member made up for their lack of children.
