Many state and central ministers from Vizianagaram district, who have played a key role in state and national politics for decades, are now away from direct elections. Leaders who excelled in politics for a long time and made a special mark for themselves in public life have now said goodbye to direct politics. Chief among them is former Union Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju. Ashok Gajapathi, who made his political debut through the Janata Party in 1978 and entered the Assembly for the first time, contested eight times as an MLA and two times as an MP till 2019. He contested ten times in total but was defeated only twice as a 2004 Vizianagaram Assembly candidate and 2019 Vizianagaram MP candidate. Ashok Gajapathi Raju has made a special mark for himself by acting actively in many key positions as the Minister of State and Union Minister of Aviation. But in the current election, he missed the election due to ill health. Besides, he also said goodbye to direct politics. He says that whenever the party asks him for advice, he will definitely give it.
Another key leader in the district is Patiwada Narayanaswamy Naidu. In 1983, he was elected MLA from Bhogapuram constituency for the first time and entered the assembly. Since then till 2019, except 2004 and 2019, he has been successful as MLA in all the elections. He contested the elections nine times and won seven times. He also served as State Minister and Protem Speaker once. Currently, he too has moved away from direct politics due to age. Another former minister from the district is Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao. He was elected MLA twice from Congress Party and twice from YCP. Sujay, who served as MLA for four terms, joined TDP from YCP in 2016. After that he served as Minister of Mines in the TDP Cabinet.
Everyone thought that Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao, who is currently active in direct politics, will be in the election ring from some position in the 2019 elections as well. But as his brother Babynayana got the ticket from Bobbili, Sujay has to stay away from the direct election. These seniors, who have been involved in state and national politics for more than decades, are now away from direct politics and their fans are getting emotional. These three leaders have been able to hold a special position as they are impeccable politicians and future generations need such leaders.
