Ongole, March 18: It is known that the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) conducted the Group 1 preliminary examination on Sunday (March 17). While 1,48,881 people have applied for this exam, only 1,26,068 people have downloaded the hall tickets. The commission said that 91,463 candidates i.e. 72.55 percent appeared for the two paper examination in 18 districts across the state. Meanwhile, a candidate was caught with a cell phone while trying to copy in the Group 1 examination at Quis Engineering College Center in Ongolu, Prakasam district. The apprehended candidate has been identified as the son of Thela Chinna Mallaiah of Bayestawarpet of Prakasam district.
Thela Chinna Mallaiah is working as the CI of Karampudi district of Palnadu. His son Sivashankar reached the center of Ongolu Quis Engineering College to write the Group 1 examination conducted on Sunday. Fellow candidates noticed that the question paper was scanned and sent out with an iPhone which was brought into the examination center blindfolded by the officials. The SSI who was writing the exam in the same room told the officials. Giant Collector Gopalakrishna, who came to know about the matter, handed over the accused Sivashankar to the police and seized the iPhone from him. No matter how much the police questioned Sivashankar, he refused to tell the password. With this, the police tried to bring the IT core team and collect the information from the phone but failed.
Ongolu DSP M Kishorebabu told the media that a case has been registered against Sivashankar under malpractice. Criticism is rife on how he entered the exam center with a phone despite being checked with a metal detector. The police could not get any information from the accused when the matter came out at 11.30 am. To whom and where the question paper was sent is to be known in the investigation. The district collector ordered an inquiry into the security failure at the Ongole examination centre.
