Namely Nagaluti Temple, this temple is on the way to Srisailam Padayatra from Venkatapuram. Veerabhadra Swamy is enshrined in this temple. History says that this Swami was enshrined to guard the devotees walking to Srisailam. Devotees believe that this Swami will take the right path to Srisailam Mallanna so that the devotees will not get lost while walking from Venkatapuram to Srisailam. That is why this lord is also known as Kapala Veerabhadra.
This temple was built by the King of Vijayanagara Empire many hundreds of years ago. Built a few hundred years ago, the Veerabhadra temple was destroyed in an attack by treasure hunters with the malicious intention of hiding treasures in this Veerbhadra temple. At least one hundred times still excavations have been carried out in this temple for hidden treasures, which means the situation can be understood. Adjacent to this temple is a large ancient Nandi idol in a mandapam. Even this Nandi was cut into two pieces beyond the reach of these hidden treasure hunters. You can see how greedy the man is.
The need to protect our ancient art wealth has come to a point where thugs are digging up ancient temples and uncovering idols for hidden treasures. Although the forest officials are arresting and remanding them from time to time, new teams are emerging and digging is being done. New equipment is also being used in excavations. Ketugals are destroying Gods and Alayas for the sake of money, which should be worshiped with devotion.
Recently, forest officials identified five thugs who were excavating in the Nagaluti temple. Two of them were arrested. Three others are at large. Information is being collected from the arrested two. Forest officials have launched a search for the three absconders. Even now, Hindu communities are demanding that strict action be taken against these treasure hunters and the ancient temples located in the Nallamala forest area should be protected from treasure hunters.
