CM Revanth Reddy will lay the foundation stone for Patabasti Metro Rail works on March 7 at Falaknuma. Earlier it was proposed to run metro rail from MGBS to Falaknuma. However, the process was temporarily halted due to problems in land acquisition. Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) is ready to start the work after completing the land acquisition issues.
The metro authorities have started the exercise on the orders of the Telangana government for the expansion of metro services to the old city. L&T and HMRL officials have prepared plans for a metro train between MGBS and Falaknuma. From MGBS to Falak Numa, the Old City Metro will be constructed for a distance of 5.5 km. Metro stations will be built in Salarjung Museum, Charminar, Salibanda, Shamshir Ganj and Falak Numa areas on this route. There are 103 religious structures on this route, which are to be removed as part of the Metro expansion. However, the authorities have prepared plans to widen the road by 80 feet without demolishing most of the buildings and start the metro works on this route.
In the first phase of Metro Rail, 69.2 kilometers of Metro Rail was constructed by L&T. But L&T has not shown any interest in the metro construction in the old city. Due to the presence of religious buildings on this route and problems in land acquisition, L&T then raised its hand. For about 8 years, the 5.5 km road from MGBS to Falak Numa has been stopped. The Majlis Party had previously objected to the removal of religious barriers. Along with Rayadurgam and other areas, about 2.7 km will be added, and if the MGBS to Falaknuma line is also completed, the length of the metro rail line will be 74.7 km.
MIM leader Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi clarified that the development of old town is our priority. Asad criticized the rival parties for making false accusations that his party is blocking the development of the Old City for political gain in the elections. Asaduddin said that apart from completing the metro works in the old basti, the roads should also be widened as soon as possible. Not only that, he asked the government to shift the Chanchal Guda Jail in the Old City from there and set up a KG to PG educational institution in its place. Apart from this, MP Asad demanded that the CAR headquarters should be shifted from the voted city and the state government should develop the area.
