Trained by India’s first global superstar, world badminton legend Prakash Padukone, Pullela rose to the same level a few years later. In the year 2001, Pullela Gopichand won the most prestigious badminton tournament All England title by defeating China’s Chen Hong. He became the second Indian player to win the world title after Padukone. No player has been able to repeat it since then. Earlier in 1998 he also won bronze medals in Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
