Anil Kumble 10 Wickets in Innings: February 7 holds a special place in the history of world cricket, especially Indian cricket. Such a miracle has happened only once before in the history of cricket. This miracle would not have happened if the conspiracy of the Pakistani player had succeeded that day. Exactly 25 years ago at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground in Delhi, the entire cricketing world witnessed this history when Indian legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble joined Pakistan batsmen in the pavilion one by one.
On 7 February 1999, the second match of the India vs Pakistan Test series was played in Delhi. After the crushing defeat in Chennai, the Indian team trailed 0-1 in the series. Team India needs a win to make a comeback in such situations. Batting first, the Indian team scored 252 runs in the first innings. The Pakistani team collapsed to 172 runs. Kumble took the most 4 wickets in the first innings. After taking a lead of 80 runs in the first innings, the Indian team scored a huge score of 339 runs in the second innings and gave Pakistan a target of 420 runs.

On the fourth day of the match i.e. on February 7, as India’s second innings ended, the Pakistan team went into bat. Shahid Afridi and Saeed Anwar put on a 101-run partnership for the first wicket, leaving India desperate for a wicket. Kumble then took Afridi’s wicket first. From here the festival of wickets started. Kumble took a total of 10 wickets and created history. It is only the second time in the history of cricket that all 10 wickets have been taken in a single innings. England spinner Jim Laker achieved this feat many years before Kumble. After Kumble, in 2021, New Zealand spinner Ajaj Patel repeated the feat against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Waqar Yunus conspiracy..
A few years after Kumble’s historic feat, Pakistan’s legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram made a sensational announcement. This brought into question the ‘sportsmanship’ of his fellow pacer Waqar Younis. In that match, Pakistan captain Akram and Younis were the last pair. Wasim said that Younis himself wanted to be run out and because of this Kumble could not take all 10 wickets and thus he could not create history. However, Waqar did not succeed in this conspiracy. Before him, Wasim was a victim of Kumble. Waqar gets embarrassed after Wasim’s revelation. But, the Pakistan legend denied this allegation.
