Nepal cricket team suffered a huge setback. Former team captain and brilliant leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichane was found guilty of raping a minor girl. On Friday (December 29), the trial was held in connection with this case and the Kathmandu District Court pronounced Sandeep guilty. Sandeep also played in Indian T20 League IPL. He is representing Delhi Capitals in this league. However, the judge did not reveal how many years Sandeep will be sentenced in this case. A decision on this will come in the next hearing. Lamichane is currently out on bail. Patan High Court granted him bail on January 12. On August 21, a Kathmandu district court lawyer filed a rape case against a 17-year-old girl. Sandeep has been charged under Section 219 of the Criminal Code 2074. The minor girl filed a case against Sandeep on 6 September 2022 at Gaushal Metropolitan Police Circle. Sandeep is currently playing for Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean Premier League. Nepal Police arrested him on October 6. Due to allegations, Sandeep’s bank account and assets were seized.
Sandeep played IPL for two years. He represented Delhi Capitals in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Sandeep played 51 ODI matches for Nepal and took 112 wickets. He took 98 wickets for Nepal in 20 T20 matches. Sandeep plays in T20 leagues around the world. He also plays in Australia’s Big Bash League. But after this case, his cricket career is in big question. And let’s see how many years Sandeep will be punished.
