BJP won 8 seats in Telangana assembly elections. Out of these eight, except for two places, the other six places were won by newcomers. These 6 people are going to enter the assembly for the first time. None of the main leaders who contested the election won. Among the older two, Goshamahal MLA Rajasingh is entering the assembly for the third time. Nirmal MLA Maheshwar Reddy is going to climb the steps of the assembly for the second time.
Meanwhile, there is a discussion on who will be chosen by the BJP leadership as the leader of the party in the Legislative Assembly. Rajasingh continued as the leader of the party’s Legislative Assembly in the last Assembly. But he got a chance as he won here in the last election. In the subsequent by-elections, Raghunandan Rao and Etala Rajender won, but the BJP high command kept him as the floor leader. Even though he was suspended, the party did not give another chance. Now again he was elected MLA from Goshamahal.
Doubts are being expressed whether the party will make him the floor leader again or not. His minus is his lack of command over the Telugu language, mainly on issues like Rajasingh’s state. Some people in the party are expressing the opinion that since he won for the third time, he should be given a chance. There is a discussion in the party circles that Maheshwar Reddy, who won as Nirmal MLA, is also likely to be made the floor leader. He has the experience of working as an MLA in the past and is aware of the problems in the state. So they think he can do it.
But there is a strong demand to make Katipalli Venkataramana Reddy, who exceptionally won against KCR Revanth Reddy in Kamareddy, as the leader of the BJP legislative party. The BJP ranks want to elect him as the leader of the Legislative Assembly and rotate him across the state. The party ranks want to make Suvvendu Adhikari, who won over Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal, as the leader of the legislative party in the same way as the party is rotating in the state.
Party ranks think that he has the philosophy to fight on the issues that he can talk about and the name won over the two main leaders will come together for the party. But he is a person who is new to state level politics and mostly confined to his constituency. In this context, it is doubtful to what extent the party high command will lean towards him.
